Rommel, a German Shepherd, joined the Wyandotte Police Department. He and his partner, Officer Dan Foley are assigned to the Special Operations Unit. Rommel is certified by the North American Police Work Dog Association in: Tracking, Narcotics, Building Search, Area Search, Article Search, Obedience and Handler Protection. Rommel's ride of choice is a 2007 Chevrolet Police Tahoe.
Khan, a male black & red German shepherd was imported from Czechoslovakia in early 1998 and was placed into service as the Wyandotte Police Department's first K9 with Ofc. Dan Foley as his handler.
Honorably serving the Wyandotte Police Department and the citizens of Wyandotte, Ofc. Foley & Khan frequently deployed with local, state and federal agencies upon request, seizing in excess of $600,000 in narcotics related cash and property and was responsible for apprehending numerous criminals during his career. In August 2005 Khan was diagnosed with German Shepherd Degenerative Myelopathy, which is a neurological disorder affecting the spine and gradually increases the inability for mobility.
In March 2006 after nearly 8 years of service to our community, Khan was placed to rest after battling this incurable disease and is sadly missed by many.
